Charles Joseph Ames, 89, died at 7:15 am, Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at Country Acres Personal Care Home in Titusville.
Born January 5, 1928 in Fauncetown, he was a son of the late Clinton N. and Bertha Popeney Ames.
Mr. Ames was a 1945 graduate of Oil City High School where he studied in the auto trades program.
After graduating, he went to work for Worthington before starting Ames Brother’s Garage with his brother Ed, which he co-owned and worked as an auto mechanic.
Chuck served in the US Army in Korea during the Korean War as part of a tank crew.
He was a member of the NRA and an avid hunter, fisherman, and gardener.
Mr. Ames was an original charter member of the Oakland Township Volunteer Fire Department, and an honorary lifetime member.
Those that knew Chuck well knew they could count on him time and again as there wasn’t anything around that he couldn’t fix or repair.
On September 25, 1954, he married the former Mary Helen Hargenrader who he lovingly cared for until her death on March 31, 2014.
Surviving are four children, Kirby Ames and wife Tammy, Linda McBride and husband Joe, Jeff Ames and wife Elizabeth, and Dan Ames and wife Leslie; 14 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Also surviving is a sister, Jean Ames.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Edward, Virgil, and infant Donovan Ames, and two sisters, Dorothy Deets and Helen Ames.
Friends may call at the Morrison Funeral Home on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am Monday in St. Venantius Church in Rouseville, with the Rev. John Miller, presiding.
Interment will be in the Dempseytown Luthern Cemetery.
