John McCorkle was the son of Alexander (Alexr.) McCorkle and Mildred Welch. John McCorkle married Sallie Echison (or Etchison) Cunningham (Sally Cunningham) in Rockbridge Co., VA on 18 July 1822.

On the 1850 Dist. 51, Rockbridge Co., VA census, I found farmer JOHN McCorkle 52; Sarah E McCorkle, 44; student William D McCorkle, 17; student James T McCorkle, 15; John N McCorkle, 14; Sarah M McCorkle, 11; George B McCorkle, 9; Annie W McCorkle, 7, all VA born.

On the 1860 Dist. 2, Rockbridge Co., VA census, I found farmer JOHN McCorkle, 63, with $19K in real estate; Sarah E McCorkle, 53; John N McCorkle, 23; Geo B McCorkle, 18 and Annie W McCorkle, 15, all VA born

John McCorkle died in Rockbridge Co., VA of consumption (TB), aged 68 years, 2 months and 23 days. His son Wm D. McCorkle reported it. Death Register.

Also, his son: John N. McCorkle, died 7 Sep 1864 in Rockbridge Co., VA of consumption (TB). He was aged 27 years, 6 months and 10 days, the son of John & Sarah E. McCorkle. He was born in Rockbridge and worked as a farmer. Informant was brother Wm D. McCorkle. Based on this data, he was born on ABOUT 28 Feb 1837. Burial unknown.
