She was the third in her family to be named Welthy, after her mother and her grandmother, Welthy Palmer Morgan, who moved from Colchester, Connecticut, with her husband, Joshua Morgan, after the Revolutionary War. The tradition continued with the birth of Welthy Usher Stearns' daughter, Welthy Stearns Hall, and her granddaughter, Welthy Hall Shaw. She married Elijah Stearns.
