Carrie Mae Fowlkes, 89, of Moberly, died Thursday evening, August 25, 2011, at her home. She had been in failing health. Carrie was born September 17, 1921, in Moberly to Grover and Laura (Patterson) Sires. Prior to retirement she was a sales clerk for Woolworth, Westlake Hardware, CoachLight, and Becraft Jewelers. Carrie was a member of the First Christian Church and had served for many years as a volunteer at MRMC. She married James A. Fowlkes on October 17, 1942, and he survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Carolyn Sue Hageman of Moberly; a son, James Ronald Fowlkes of Hasting, MN; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Carrie was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers, Jethro, Jim, Bill Jack, Harry, Frank, and Foster Sires; and a sister, Fannie Ireland. Services will be Monday, 10:30 a.m. at CATER Funeral Home Chapel with interment at Missouri State Veteran's Cemetery in Jacksonville. Visitation will be Sunday, 2:00-5:00 p.m. at CATER Funeral Home.
