Susie Inez (Johnson) Ring, born November 7, 1893, in Oaky Streak, Butler County, Alabama, was the oldest of ten children (see 1951 photo of all ten children and their mom) of James David Johnson (1870-1938) and Viola Antoinette Brook Johnson (1874-1956).
She married Charles B. Wright (1883-1925) in 1910 in Santa Rosa County, FL, and they had two children, Lafola Wright and Carlyle Wright before divorcing between 1920 and 1925. Of note, her sister, Bertha Johnson, married Charles' brother, Issac Wright; that marriage also ended in divorce.
By 1925, Susie had moved to Jacksonville and in 1931, she married Murrice Crayvon Ring (1900-1951); they were married for 20 years, until his death in 1951. Dorothy Ring was their only child together.
Susie ran a boarding houses out of her home for years, starting as early as the 1930s. In fact, the author's parents met when my dad was a boarder there and my mom, Susie's niece, a fellow Jacksoville resident, would visit her aunt's house.
In addition to running a boarding house, Susie was a homemaker and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, a Masonic appendant.
Susie moved from Jacksonville to DeLand, FL in 1985, where she lived until her death on February 1, 1988 in DeLand, FL.
