Life Overview
Bertha Clare (Johnson) Harty was born in Alabama on September 19, 1902, the fifth of ten children of James David Johnson and Viola Antoinette (Brook) Johnson. Her family moved to Santa Rosa County, Florida when she was young and that's where she spent the remainder of her childhood.

Like her older sister Susie, Bertha married a Wright brother (in 1920), Isaac Wright (1987-1946), a World War I Army veteran, and like Susie, she divorced the Wright brother; they were married for about 10 years.

Her only child, Cecil, was born during this marriage. They lived in Milton, Santa Rosa County, FL, just east of Pensacola.

In 1944, she married a widower with two adult children, Frank Roquet, a native of Chicago, IL; they were married for 23 years until Frank's death in 1967.

Her early life and first marriage were spent in Santa Rosa County. Close to and or after her marriage to Frank, she moved to Jacksonville, FL, where she lived rest of her life.

While in Jacksonville, Bertha worked in beauty salons, as operator of at least two different salons between 1936 to 1960, likely longer.

In 1971, at age 68, Bertha married Ernest Hampton Harty (1900-1987) and they remained married until Bertha's death in September 1986;

Bertha was preceded in death by her:
. parents, James Johnson and Viola (Brook) Johnson;
. brothers, Henry "H.C." Johnson, Alton Johnson, Sr., Lee Johnson, and Jennings "J.D." Johnson
. second husband, Frank Roquet
. grandson, Cecil Wright, Jr.

At the time of her death, Bertha was survived by her:
. husband, Ernest Harty;
. sisters, Susie (Johnson) Ring, Eunice (Johnson) Acosta, and Olyne (Johnson) Whitley;
. brothers, James "Trammell" Johnson, and Roy Johnson;
. son, Cecil Wright, Sr. (Amy);
. grandchildren, Joel "Robin" Wright (Jeannie), Richard "Stan" Wright (Sherry), and Donna (Wright) Tice (Jay)
