Ruth was born on September 23, 1920 near Waterville to Henry E. and Florence M. Gordon. She graduated from Waterville High School with the class of 1940. She started to work for Dr. George Thatcher in Waterville during high school and worked at his clinic many years. Later she worked at the Community Memorial Hospital as a lab and X-ray technician.

She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Waterville where she taught Sunday School. She was a member of the American Legion Auxilliary, Royal Neighbors of America, the Rebecca Lodge in Waterville and had been a Girl Scout Leader. She was preceded in death by both parents and seven brothers and sisters: Bessie Patterson, James Gordon, Donald Gordon, Franklin Gordon, William Gordon, Thelma Gano and Esther Christensen. She is survived by one brother and 5 sisters.
