Lloyd A. Christofferson, age 72, of Summit, SD passed away Friday, July 06, 2012, in Watertown, SD. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at Hope Lutheran Church in Summit, SD.
Burial will be in Ortley Cemetery, Ortley, SD. Honorary pallbearers will be Lloyd's grandchildren: Angela, Carrie, Becky, Kelsey, Cierra, Ryan, Steven, Matthew, Jared, Derrickand Reid; great-grandchildren: Mackenzie and Avery, Owen and Ava, and London; many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at Hope Lutheran Church in Summit on Monday from 4-7 p.m. and will continue Tuesday at the church prior to the services.
Lloyd was born on January 13, 1940, on the family farm near Summit to Oscar and Frances (Richardt) Christofferson. He attended country school in Summit Township.
On March 7, 1959, Lloyd married Sandra Miller in Ortley. To this union five children were born: Tammy, Keith, Kevin, Cheryl, and Valerie. Lloyd was a grain and dairy farmer. He also worked for Letze Drag Line/Jim Taylor Dragline, Roberts County Highway Department, and was a foreman for Art Herreid Construction. He was co-owner of I-29 Lounge. Lloyd was a supervisor for Summit Township, served on the Summit School District Board, and was Mayor of Summit until poor health forced him to retire.
Lloyd enjoyed spending time with his family and especially during holiday get-togethers. He had a passion for music and enjoyed playing guitar with his brother, Forrest. Lloyd and Sandra had their own band, "The Reservation Rascals". They played for many wedding and barn dances.
