On April 26, 1942, also at Zion, he married Lorna Meyer. They farmed around the Tobias (Nebraska) area and raised four daughters. Upon retirement, they moved into the village of Tobias.
Martin was a well-respected man with a lively sense of humor. He and Lorna had many friends. Martin remembered the German which he had grown up speaking, and was able to practice it when he and Lorna visited their homeland and made connections with relatives still living there.
He is deeply missed by those he left behind.
