Lightning Kills A Man

Hollace Bunch, 25 year old farm hand, was killed instantly when struck by a bolt of lightning Tuesday evening, and with him the horse he was riding on the farm on Jim Conders, about 7 or 8 miles south of Hurdland.

He had gone horseback after the cattle, as a part of the chores of the evening, between 5:30 and 6 o'clock, and it was while riding across a field the lightning struck and killed both. The bodies were found by Mr. Conder, by whom he was employed.

Funeral services were expected to be Friday at Youngstown, eight miles west of Kirksville, with burial in the Pinkston Cemetery. The Rev. Albert Blood, a former schoolmate, will conduct the services. The time of the funeral was dependant upon the arrival of one brother from Oklahoma.

Bunch was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Willis Bunch, who survive, and came to this county five years ago from Greencastle. He was born at Winnigan, Mo., July 20, 1912, and married Miss Opal Pope in December, 1934. There were no children. Besides the wife and parents a sister, Dora, who married a Bunch, and ten brothers survive.

The brothers are: Harley of Greencastle, Volley of Sublette, Otis of Sasahawa, Okla., Ermine, Alvin, Frank, Asa, Dean, Dick and Marion of LaPlata.

Note: I wrote this exactly as The Edina Sentinel had it written--notice they give Pinkston Cemetery, but only Pinkerton Cemetery is near Youngstown, MO.

Another source gave 19 APR 1936 as marriage date.
