Third of five children of John W. & Levina Miles Shupe, census records say she was born in TN, but her obituary says VA. (We know her mother was born in VA.) Her birth family came to IL about 1860.

Celia married James K. P. Snelling on Aug. 26, 1868 in Albion, IL. They farmed in Wayne Co. and had 10 children.
