The sixth of ten children of James Knox Polk and Celia Ann Shupe Snelling, she married George Washington Mayes on Oct. 14, 1896. They had three children:

Alta Belle Mayes 1904- 1955
m 1936 Geo. Calvin Trotter

George W. died 1924. She then married George Brainard.Sixth of ten children of James K. P and Celia Shupe Snelling, she was born in rural Wayne Co. Illinois. She was known as a very friendly person.

She married George Washington Mayes of Mt. Erie, IL Oct. 14, 1896. They had three known children:

Her Mayes children are all buried in Brown Cemetery, Enterprise, IL.
