Hal L. Ashenhurst, 85, of Wheatland died Feb. 1 at his home.

He was born June 1, 1913, in Tingley, Iowa, to Harry and Floy (Hankins) Ashenhurst.

Ashenhurst graduated from Wheatland High School and the University Prep School.

He farmed in the Slater area from 1939 until the time of his death.

Ashenhurst married Ruth E. McLees on Oct. 18, 1933, in Greeley, Colo.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Shriners Club, a past member of the United Methodist Church and served as a school board member for 24 years.

Ashenhurst is survived by his wife, Ruth of Wheatland; two children, Charlene Starrs of Cheyenne and Larry Ashenhurst of Wheatland; one brother, Gene Ashenhurst of Forsyth, Mont.; three sisters, Gail Bostwick of Sheridan, Betty Rhinehart of Billings, Mont., and Reba Johnston of El Cajon, Calif.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Rex Ashenhurst.
