Carolyn Hillenburg, died Friday morning, February 12, 1999, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

A resident of Scipio, she was 64.
Mrs. Hillenburg was born September 11, 1934, in Crab Orchard, Kentucky to Thomas and Lenore Smith Osborne.


She and Gene Hillenburg were married April 1, 1950, in Kurtz. He survives.


Mrs. Hillenburg had worked at Cummins Engine Company in Columbus before retiring.


Other survivors include a son, Tim Hillenburg of Seymour; a daughter, Marlene Burton of Scipio; a brother, Dan Smallwood of Norman; four other sisters, Retna Kirts of Columbus, Retha Kirts of Houston, Estelle Pugh of Crawfordsville and Odella Stoops of Kankakee, Illinois; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.


The Reverend Bill Weaver conducted a service Tuesday, February 16, at Spurgeon Funeral Home in Brownstown.

Burial was at Garland Brook Cemetery in Columbus.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Reddington Christian Church building fund, or Kurtz Church of the Nazarene.

1940 Census - Thomas(51) & Nora(47) Osborne are found living on a rented farm located on Spurgeon Road, Van Buren Township, Monroe County, Indiana. Thomas is a self-employed farmer. Children living in the home were Odilla(21) employed as a housekeeper; Rissie(18) employed as a housekeeper; Geoffrey(16); Retna(13); Estel(8); Carrie(5) Osborne and Nora children from a previous relationship, Dan(19); Lyod(19) and Retha(16) Smallwood. All household members were born in Kentucky.
