OBITUARY :
MERLE ELWOOD ADDLESBERGER, 77, of 50 S. Ridge Ave., Greencastle, died at 1:50 a.m. Friday, Nov. 24, 1995, in Martinsburg VA Center. He had been in failing health for the past three years and had been critically ill for the past two months.

Born March 27, 1918, in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Merle D., Sr. and Lillian (Ressler) Addlesberger. He had lived his early life in Waynesboro.

Mr. Addlesberger served with the U.S. Army in the European Theater during World War II. He served in the European Theater.

He and his wife of 48 years, Mrs. Jean (Moore) Addlesberger, were married Oct, 25,1947. They moved to Greencastle in August 1984.

Following his discharge from the military, he worked at Fairchild Aircraft Manufacturing, Hagerstown, for a number of years and then moved to Michigan, where he worked in the Aircraft Division of Hudson Motor Car Co. He then moved to Washington, D.C., in 1959, working for several airline companies. Before retiring in 1971, he was a programmer for the Department of Labor for 10 years.

Mr. Addlesberger was a member of Refuge Tabernacle, Waynesboro.

He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans of Washington, D.C., and the William Max McLaughlin VFW Post 695, Waynesboro.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by five sisters, Rosalie Wharton of Little Washington, Va., Betty Negley and Victoria Eshelman, both of Chambersburg, Mary Myers of Waynesboro and Armatha Stanblock of Jacksonville, Fla.; four brothers, Leonard Addlesberger and Carl Addlesberger, both of Greencastle, and William Addlesberger and Joe Addlesberger, both of Waynesboro; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Gladys Fahnestock, who died in 1972.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Grove Funeral Home, Waynesboro, with Pastor L. Wayne Comer officiating. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery near Mont Alto.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
