OBITUARY :
WILLIAM C. "BILL" ADDLESBERGER, 81 of 11969 Old Forge Road, Waynesboro, died at 1:45 a.m. Monday, April 29, 2002, in his home. He had been in failing health for the past six months following an accident in his home.

Born Jan. 5, 1921, in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Merle D., Sr. and Lillian (Ressler) Addlesberger. He lived his entire life in Waynesboro.

Mr. Addlesberger attended Waynesboro schools.

He and his wife of 61 years, Mae J. (Lesher) Addlesberger, were married Dec. 23, 1940, in United Brethren Church, Hagerstown. They lived at the present residence for the past 31 years.

He served in the U.S. Army from October 1943 to January 1946. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Philippines Liberation Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with the Bronze Star and World War II Victory Medal.

Mr. Addlesberger was employed as a tool designer for Fairchild Aircraft Manufacturer, Hagerstown, for 20 years. Prior to retiring in 1984, he was a machine operator for Mack Trucks, Hagerstown, for 26 years.

He was a Protestant.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Patricia V. Gitchell of Sutton, Alaska, and Brenda Ann Mentzer of Waynesboro; one son, Robert E. Addlesberger of Thornton, Colo., three sisters, Armatha Skaggs of California, and Betty Negley and Victoria Eshelman, both of Chambersburg; three brothers, Leonard Addlesberger and Carl Addlesberger, both of Greencastle, and Joseph Addlesberger of Waynesboro; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, William Carl Addlesberger, three sisters, Gladys Fahnestock, Rosalie H. Wharton and Mary E. Myers; and one brother, Merle D. Addlesberger.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro, with Pastor Chris Stouffer officiating. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery, Quincy.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
