Betty Veatrice Cooksey Wigginton was born January 3rd, 1937 to Chester Garland Cooksey and Edna Earl Fore Cooksey in Cardwell Missouri. She passed away Tuesday May 17th, 2011.

One of twelve children, born a sharecropper's daughter, she married and attended cosmetology in Kennett, Missouri. She later moved to Las Vegas, Nevada where she worked as a casino cashier. Betty moved to Batesville in 1968, where she lived for seven years. In 1975 she moved to Chandler Arizona where she worked numerous jobs to support her children after her divorce.

She loved most her nursing work at Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix Arizona. She loved helping and caring for others. She later lived in Andrews, Texas where she continued her nursing work at Permian General Hospital. In 1996, Betty returned to Batesville where she lived out the rest of her life after she had raised her five children.

Betty was a kind and gentle soul who viewed the world with wonder and excitement. She had witty and sometimes dry sense of humor and an intense love for her family. She was always there when anyone needed her. Betty loved her flowers, her dogs and always managed to have a stray cat or two at her door that she faithfully cared for. She loved nature and nature loved her. An old woman at death, she died a child of God.

She was a strong and fearless mother who always provided for her children through prosperity as well as times of poverty. She will be missed more than words can describe. She was truly beautiful and we will always love, and forever carry her in our hearts.

Betty leaves behind, two sons David Shockley of Floral and Troy Needham of Andrews Texas; three daughters, Paula Dowell of Bethesda, Connie Jo Jones of Dallas Texas, and Patty Eide of Woodstock Iowa. She is the grandmother of twelve grandchildren, eight great grand children, one great great granddaughter and one great, great grandson who was born on May 13th, 2011.

She is also survived by her companion and friend Frank L. Moore of Magness, her brother James Cooksey of Batesville, and sisters Janetta Elkins of Warm Springs, Dorothy Hampton of Morton Illinois, Lois Newman of Paragould and Shirley Ann Wilson of South Carolina.

She is preceded in death by her brothers, Lawrence Cooksey, Richard Cooksey and Oris Cooksey and sisters Beulah Wikowski, Pat Pardoe, and Margaret "Judy" Wetvel.

Wake will be at Willis Funeral Home at 3513 Harris Street, Batesville on Friday May 20th from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. Funeral Services will be held at the same location on Saturday May21st at 10:00a.m. She will be laid to rest at Egner Cemetery on Allen Chapel Road.
