She was born May 17, 1925, in Hickory Ridge, Ark., to Chester and Edna (Fore) Cooksey. She married Gilbert Hampton on July 11, 1945, in Jonesboro, Ark.
Surviving are three daughters, Linda Hampton of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, Jean Hampton of Havana, Ill., and Betty Ortega of Peoria; three grandchildren, Shannon Hampton, Felicia Peterson and Alex Ferraro; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Janetta (Mike) Elkins and Lois Neuman, and one brother, James (Kim) Cooksey, all of Arkansas.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
Dorothy was employed with Caterpillar Inc. for 23 years, retiring from the tool crib at the Morton Parts Distribution Center in November 1990.
She was a former member of Eastside Bible Church (formerly Morton Bible Church) in Morton; Luthy Botanical Gardens in Peoria and the Caterpillar Retirees Club in East Peoria.
She was a camp photographer at the former Camp Heffernan near Lake Bloomington in rural Hudson.
