Catherine was the daughter of William Rogers, Sr. and first wife Rebecca. According to her obit, she was born in the Haymond Settlement in Taylor County, Virginia before it became West Virginia. Unfortunately, his website does not allow the input of Taylor County, Virginia as a location, so her birth location simply says "Virginia.". It has come to my attention that some ancestry.com trees have Jane Timmons as her mother. Jane was her STEP-MOTHER. Sister Henrietta is also the daughter of REBECCA, NOT JANE.

Catherine married Philip Gordon Austin 5 March 1863 in Taylor County, Virginia. They had thirteen children: Mary; James; Jane; Oliver; Ida; Cassa; George; Robert; Senora; Samuel; Eve; Minnie; John.

Before 1889 Gordon and Catherine separated. Family members began living in the poorhouse (County Infirmary) off and on for years.
