Floyd E. Beard, 78, of Rural Route 1, Plainfield, Iowa, died Saturday afternoon, December 7, 1991, at the Waverly Municipal Hospital from cancer.
Floyd was born on April 29, 1913, in Agricola, Kansas, the son of Leo H. and Bertha (Wilkinson) Beard. In early childhood he moved with his parents to a farm near Clarksville. He attended country school in the Clarksville area, and later moved with his family to a farm north of Plainfield. He attended the Plainfield School System, graduating from the Plainfield High School in 1931. Following his schooling he worked on the family farth. On July 8, 1934, he was united in marriage to Evelyn Pierce at the Janesville Methodist parsonage. The couple started farming 1 mile east of Plainfield, and in 1937, moved to a farm in the Tripoli area where they continued to farm for nine years. n 1947, the couple moved back to Plainfield, where they farmed 4 mile north of Horton:
In 1953, they bought the farm where they presently lived. Floyd drove school bus in Plainfield from 1957 until 1962, and started working at the Plainfield Lumber Yard in 1966. He retired in 1978, and continued to live on their present farm. Floyd became ill with cancer in September of 1988.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Plainfield, a member of the Greater Plainfield Community Club, and a member of the Willow Lawn Cemetery board.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn of Plainfield, his three sons and their spouses, Robert L. & Laura Beard of Reinbeck, Ronald L. Beard of Nashua, and Kenneth D. & Clara Beard of Waverly, five granddaughters, Cindy Beard, Lori Strawhun, Tammy Rbbbins, Bobbie Jo Beard and Angela Beard, two great grandchildren Levi Wolfensperger and MelissaStrawhun, one brother, Ervin Beard of Plainfield. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Velma Nichols, three brothers, Clifford, Virgil, and Lyle, and one granddaughter, Candy JoLynn in 1968.
