Evelyn was born on July 8, 1916, the daughter of Vernon P. and Pearl (Thompson) Pierce in Plainfield, Iowa. She attended and graduated from Plainfield High School in 1933. On July 8, 1934, she was united in marriage to Floyd E. Beard at the Janesville Methodist parsonage in Janesville, Iowa. The couple started farming one mile east of Plainfield, and in 1937, moved to a farm in the Tripoli area where they continued to farm for nine years. In 1947, Floyd and Evelyn moved back to Plainfield, where they farmed one half mile north of Horton. In 1953, they bought the farm where Evelyn presently lived. Floyd died on December 79 1991.
Evelyn was a member of the United Methodist Church in Plainfield where she was involved in the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Happy Hour Club of Nashua, Iowa, Farm Bureau Women's Club and the Greater Plainfield Community Club. Evelyn enjoyed canning, cooking and especially spending time with her family.
She is survived by three sons, Robert L. Beard and his spouse, Laura, of Reinbeck, Iowa, Ronald L. Beard of Nashua and Kenneth D. Beard and his spouse, Clara, of Plainfield; five granddaughters, Cindy Beard of Eldora, Iowa, Lori Strawhun of Norman, Oklahoma, Tammy Robbins of Waverly, Iowa, Bobbie Jo Wolfensperger of Waverly and Angie Beard of Plainfield; six great-grandchildren, Melissa and Ryan Strawhun, Shelby and Shianna Robbins and Levi and Ivan Wolfensperger; and one sister, Edna Pierce of Waterloo, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one granddaughter, Candy JoLynn in 1968; three sisters, Ethel Hastings, Rosina Grapp and Versalia Pierce; and one brother, Riley Pierce.
