Bertha Beard Dies At 85
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 6, at 2 p.m. from the Baptist church in Plainfield for Mrs. Bertha E. Beard, 85, lifetime resident of the Plainfield-Clarksville area. She died Saturday, May 3, at St. Joseph's hospital in Waverly.
The Rev. Howard Church officiated, and burial was in Willow Lawn cemetery.
Bertha Wilkinson Beard was born February 4, 1884 in Butler county, Iowa, the daughter of Edwin A. Wilkinson and Ida Mae (Markle) Wilkinson.
November 2, 1904, she married Leo H. Beard at the home of her parents in Clarksville. He preceded her in death July 21, 1946. During their marriage they lived and farmed in the Clarksville area until 1926, when they moved to Plainfield.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Velma Nichols of Sumner; four sons, Ervin V. Beard of Plainfield; and Lyle Beard of Marion; Floyd E Beard of Plainfield; and Virgil E. Beard, Minneapolis. Minn ; 17 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.
Also one sister, Mrs. Velma Mueller of St. Ansgar; and one brother, Edwin Wilkinson of Clarksville.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Clifford in infancy; three sisters: Clara, Iva Mae, and Dora: and one brother, Albert.
