My grand father, Edwin Joel Waldrip, Sr. went by his middle name, Joel. I was about 4 when he passed, so I don't remember much about him. I can only recall 2 visits with him. Once when he was so sick he couldn't get out of the bed. He had heart trouble they said.

The best memory I have is him sitting in his rocking chair. He let me stand on the rocker. I held on to the arm of the chair and he rocked me. I remember him smiling at me. I guess that was one of his good days.

My cousins and I remember him being a small man and wearing khaki work clothes. He was a farmer. He probably grew cotton, along with growing enough vegetables to feed his large family. He and my grand mother, Georgia Dean Waldrip raised a family of nine. Eight boys and a girl.
