I don't know much about my Uncle Horace except he walked with a limp and died in Memphis, TN of pneumonia at age 19. This what my dad, George told me when I asked him about his brother many years ago.

Horace born Feb. 20, 1899 and George born Aug. 11, 1907, I don't think my dad remembered much about Horace. I think this is the order the 9 children were born to Joel & "Daggie" Waldrip about 100 years ago. Dean, Horace, Edwin, William, Russell, George, Hal, Juanita (the only girl) and Lamar. My grand parents must have had there hands full.

My dad said he didn't know why Horace had what was referred to as a "gimp leg" back then. He thought he was "just born" with the problem that caused the limp. He said he was never "real strong", "kind of sickly".

He went to Memphis to find work when he was about 17 and stayed with Aunt Lou until his death. I don't know what kind of work he did, if dad told me I have forgotten.

That is the tiny bit I know. If any one knows more about Horace please share it with us.

When I heard stories about the family I should have taken notes or used a tape recorder. Now they are all gone and I have to try to remember what was said. I should have been a better historian for my family.

If anyone has a picture of Horace please share it with us. I have never seen a photo of him.
