HILDA MARIE VAN SCOY

Hilda Marie Van Scoy, daughter of John Thomas and Hilda Amelia Peterson Skidmore, was born Oct. 4, 1905, in Lucas and died April 27, 2000 at the Clarke County Hospital in Osceola. She was 94.

She received most of her education in Lucas County. She also lived in Des Moines, Truro and Knoxville before she moved to Osceola in 1946.

She married Everett Van Scoy on July 12, 1930, at State Center and they became the parents of three children, Patricia, Mary Lou and Robert. The couple celebrated their 69th anniversary in July of 1999.

Mrs. Van Scoy was always active in her community and involved in her children's activities. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Osceola and a member of the Altruistic Club. She was a Scout den mother and an active P.T.A. member. She taught school for a few years and was manager for a lingerie and woman's accessories store for a time.

After they retired, Mr. and Mrs. Van Scoy enjoyed traveling. They always stayed in close contact with their families who live in various locations.

Preceding her in death were her parents; two brothers, Edwin and Melvin Skidmore; two sisters, Ruth Skidmore and a sister in infancy; a daughter in infancy; a stillborn son; and a grandson, Douglas Stewart.

Mrs. Van Scoy is survived by her husband, Everett Van Scoy of Osceola; two daughters, Pat Stewart and her husband, James Stewart of San Antonio, Texas and Mary Lou Stewart of Klamath Falls, Oregon; a son, Dr. Robert Van Scoy and his wife, Patricia Van Scoy of Rochester, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were May 1 at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola, the Rev. Jim Louk of the United Methodist Church in Osceola officiating. Pennie Gonseth, organist, accompanied Emil Rinderspacher as he sang Whispering Hope and Amazing Grace. Interment of the cremains will be in Lucas (Fry Hill) Cemetery at a later date.
