Sarah Ramsey Campbell was the daughter of John and Jane Ramsey. She was born in Pennsylvania on March 14, 1819. She married Alexander Campbell in Shelocta County, Pennsylvania 1n 1855. The date of marriage listed in her obituary is February 14, 1855, but a copy the marriage certificate in her Bible shows the date to be May 20, 1855. Alexander Campbell had 6 children from his marriage to Elizabeth Henderson. She died in 1847. Alexander and Sarah had five children: Hugh Calvin, Sarah, James, Samuel, and William. James died in 1859. In 1866, Sarah and Alexander moved to Allamakee County, Iowa in order to provide more farm land for their sons. Alexander's older son, Alexander Johnston Campbell also moved to Iowa with his father. Alexander purchased farms for all four of his sons in the area surrounding his own farm. Alexander died in 1886.

Sarah moved in with her son Samuel and helped him raise his two young sons after Samuel's wife, Mary Leas Campbell, died in 1893. Samuel remarried in 1895. In 1898, Sarah "met with a severe accident which rendered her an invalid" for the rest of her life. In 1902, Samuel and his family moved to Hamilton County Nebraska. They made the trip by train so that Samuel's mother, Sarah, was able to come with them.

Sarah died in Hamilton County, Nebraska November 10, 1904 and is buried in Greenwood Cemetery east of Giltner, Nebraska.
