Sarah Campbell Moncrief was born Dec. 20, 1857 in Indiana County Pennsylvania. Her parents were Alexander and Sarah Ramsey Campbell. In the spring of 1866, Sarah moved with her parents, brothers Alexander Johnston, Hugh Calvin, Samuel and William and sister Mary Jane to Allamakee County Iowa. Sarah's uncle, Andrew Campbell and his family also moved to Iowa at this same time. Sarah married Frank T. Moncrief in 1881. A few years after Andrew Campbell moved to Iowa, David Bothell also moved his family to the same area in Iowa as Andrew Campbell. Andrew's son Robert married Mary Ann Bothell. His daughter Ruth married John Bothell. They had both been born in the same area of Pennsylvania as the Campbell family. In 1885, David Bothell pioneered in an area along the Sammamish River in Washington State. David's children, John and Mary Ann and their spouses, Ruth (Campbell) and Robert Campbell followed him to Washington as did their cousins Sarah (Campbell) Moncrief and William R. Campbell. Sarah and Frank Moncrief had no children. Sarah died March 10, 1907.

Women of Woodcraft was the women's auxilliary of the fraternal organization Woodmen of the World. The Woodmen of the World organization was probably best known for its gravestones. WOW's life insurance policies provided for these headstones.
