AMHERST - Hubert Dykes, 97, formerly of Sudan, died Wednesday, April 13, 2011.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Primitive Baptist Church in Muleshoe with Elder James Baker and Don Dykes officiating. Burial will be in Sudan Cemetery by Ellis Funeral Home of Sudan.

Mr. Dykes was born Oct. 9, 1913, in Bell County to Homer L. and Dosha Holmes Dykes. He married Winifred Hamilton on Dec. 19, 1936, in Littlefield.

Mr. Dykes moved to Lamb County in 1929 from Goldthwaite. He was a member of Primitive Baptist Church in Borger and a longtime member of Muleshoe Primitive Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon.

He was a 1934 graduate of Sudan High School, and was Lamb County Commissioner for Precinct No. 4 for 26 years, worked for Lamb County for 37 years and was a past member of the Sudan Rotary Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and three sisters, Thettie Walker, Evelyn Hardy and Nadine Ellis.

Survivors include his wife, Winifred; two sons, Donald Lee Dykes and wife Anita of Amarillo and Scotty Gene Dykes and wife Kathleen of Jacksonville, Fla.; a sister, Loraine Davis of San Antonio; two brothers, Willard Dykes of Boise, Idaho, and Cecil Dykes of New Braunfels; three grandchildren, Alison Sanchez and husband Naris, Kristi Maples and husband Jody, and Donald G. Dykes and wife Robin; nine great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be to Borger Primitive Baptist Church, 608 Missouri St., Borger, TX 79007.
