Irvin Lewis, 75-year-old retired custodian of the Lawrence County Court House and resident of 1605 Sixth street, passed away at 12:25 p.m. Thursday at his home. He had been in failing health since Feb. of 1962.
A native of Lawrence County, Mr. Lewis was born July 7, 1888 to Joseph and Jane Smith Lewis. He was united in marriage to Cora Chenault on Nov. 29, 1919 and she survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Joseph Randall Lewis, of Columbus, and Ralph Lewis of Bloomington; two daughters, Mrs. Roy Dalton of Bedford and Mrs. Gene Goodman of Bloomington; three step-children, Clinton Chenault of Indianapolis, Mrs. Clifford Love of Bedford and Mrs. Ancil Luther of Mitchell; 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Clarence Kirkman of Avoca.
He was a member of the Dive Christian Church.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with the Rev. Raymond Reuter and the Rev. Bruce Wotring officiating. Burial will be in the Green Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the Day & Carter Mortuary at any time.
