Louise Lewis Goodman, 95, a longtime Monroe County Government official, died peacefully Saturday morning, June 12th at Meadowwood Health Pavilion with her loving family at her side.

She was born on July 1, 1914, in Avoca, Indiana, the daughter of Ervin and Nora (Nikirk) Lewis. Moving to Bloomington at a very early age, Louise grew up in the Fairview area of Bloomington where she made her home for over 85 years. She was one of the last living students of the original Fairview Elementary School and was a graduate of Bloomington High School.

She started her working career early, she worked in the bookstore of BHS and also at Kresge's Five and Ten as preparation for her long career. She served two terms each as the Monroe County Auditor and Treasurer after serving eighteen years as deputy auditor and finally retired from public service in 1980. She was also active in the Monroe County Republican Party for many years having been a precinct committee person and at one time was the former president of the Young Republicans.

Besides her longtime career in government, Louise was staunchly dedicated to her family and her faith. Becoming widowed in 1935 following the death of her first husband, Harold "Bud" Parks, she maintained her allegiance to Fairview United Methodist Church. She was a charter member of the Victory Class, a member of the church choir, and served on numerous committees, including the Kitchen committee. She also volunteered in several community organizations including the Opportunity House, the American Red Cross, and as a member of the Business and Professional Women's Organization.

Survivors include one niece, Judy Gilmore of Bloomington; her great-nieces and nephews John Gilmore of Noblesville, Michael Lewis, and Vicki Lewis, both of Ellettsville, Scott Lewis of Papua, New Guinea, Tina Webb of Spencer, Steven Lewis of Ellettsville, Mark Lewis of Washington, Georgia and Genelle Lewis of Binghamton, Alabama; as well as several great-great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harold "Bud" Parks; her second husband, Gene B. Goodman in 1980; one son in infancy, Tommy Gene Goodman and one brother, Ralph Lewis.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at Fairview United Methodist Church, 600 W. 6th St. in Bloomington. Burial followed at Rose Hill Cemetery.
