SAVANNAH, Mo. — Mary Ann (Oligschlaeger) Turner, 79, Savannah, passed from this life on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at Heartland Hospital, St. Joseph.

She was born April 5, 1931 in Miller County, Mo., to George and Emma (Kemna) Oligschlaeger. Mary Ann was a graduate of St. Elizabeth High School and earned a BS in Education from Central Missouri State University, Warrensburg, Mo.

Mary Ann married Francis Turner on June 14, 1958 in Savannah, Mo.

She started her teaching career in rural schools in Miller County, Mo. Mary Ann taught history in both Savannah and Fillmore High Schools, retiring in 1992 after a 34 year teaching career. In 1972 she was American Legion Teacher of the year and won a two week vacation to the Freedom Foundation in Philadelphia, Pa.

Mary Ann was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Savannah, the American Legion Auxiliary No. 287, and the Missouri Retired Teachers Association. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed gardening, reading, history, and traveling.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Joyce Backes.

Survivors: her husband, Francis Turner of the home; two brothers: Norbert Oligschlaeger, Bakersfield, Calif.; Fred Oligschlaeger, Snohomish, Wash.; a sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Marvin Buschjost, St. Elizabeth, Mo.; a sister-in-law, Nanetta Carter, Savannah, Mo.; several nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.

A Scripture Service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 26, at Breit-Hawkins & Gladden Chapel, Savannah, Mo. Interment will be in the Fillmore (Mo.) Cemetery. A rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The family will receive friends following the rosary until 8 p.m.

Memorial donations are suggested to St. Rose of Lima Church, Fillmore Christian Church, or the Savannah Senior Center.
