The Star - November 23, 1937
Mrs. Eva White Chiswell, believed to have been the oldest resident in the upper section of Montgomery County, died here yesterday at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Edward L. Chiswell. She was 97 years old last month and until her health failed several months ago, was active and participated in social and community affairs.
Mrs. Chiswell was the widow of Lt. Edward J. Chiswell, the first commander of Ridgely Brown Camp of Confederate Veterans of Montgomery County.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Joseph N. Darby, Dawsonville, and Mrs. Norman Wootton, silver Spring; three sons, Comdr. Maurice Chiswell, U.S.N., retired, and Thomas Chiswell, both of Silver Spring, and Edward L. Chiswell; 23 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was formerly Miss Allnutt and a lifelong resident of upper Montgomery County.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. from the home of Mr. and Mrs. Edward L. Chiswell. Interment will be in Monocacy Cemetery, Beallsville.
