Born in 1724 in present day Belleville NJ, Capt. Abraham Ogden fought for American independence during the Revolution. A man in his 50's during the war years, he was an officer of maturity and experience. He died in the spring of 1790 in his 66th year.
His name is listed on the D.A.R. Monument just outside the front entrance of the First Presbyterian Church of Orange, NJ. This memorial, which consists of a bronze plaque affixed to a boulder, was erected in 1931 to honor the Revolutionary War veterans buried in the churchyard.
