Last Will and Testament of Samuel Ogden of Middleground, Essex Co., New Jersey,
Declared 27 Oct 1787; Probated 10 Jul 1789;

In the Name of God Amen I Samuel Ogden of Middleground in the County of Essex State of New Jersey Being not Very-well but Being in Perfect Mind and memory Thanks Be to God for it, therefore Calling into mind the Mortality of my Body and knowing that it is Appointed for all Men once to Die Do make and ordain this my Last will and Testament that is to say Principally and first of all I give and Recommend my Soul into the Hand of God who Gave it to be Buried in Christianlike and Decent manner Nothing Doubting but that at the General Resurrection I Shall Receive the same again by the might Power of God and or Touching such worldly Estate Wherewith it Pleaseth God to Bless me with in this Life I Give Devise and Dispose of the same in the following manner and form:-

In Primis it is my Will that Phebe my Loving Wife shall have two feather Beds and Furniture which she Brought here with other Household Goods Likewise a Cow and a Calf:-

Item it is my Will and I do Order that all my just Debt Be paid and satisfied in some Convenient Time After my Decease:-

Item it is my will and I do order that my Loving Son Simeon Ogden and George Personett whom I Do Constitute mak[e] and orda[i]ne to Be my Lawfull Executor of this my Last will and Testament to see it Duly Executed According to the true intent and meaning thereof:-

Item it is my will and I do Give Devise and Bequeath all my Right and title to the Land and Plantation Whereon I Now Live with the House Barn and out Houses thereunto Belonging to my son Simeon Ogden his Heirs and Assigns forever Excepting Four Acres Adjoining the Highway S[o]utherly Easterly the abov[e] said Land and Westerly Adjoining the same together with the Whole to Includ[e] four square Acres which I Give and Bequeath to my son Swain Ogden His Heirs and Assigns forever: if he Returns:-

Item I Likewise Give and Bequeath to my son Simeon Ogden above said A Certain Tract of Land situate lying and Being in the Great Swamp of the whole By Computation twenty Acres Be it more or less Adjoining Northerly Aaron Comps Land and Westerly Thomas Ogdens Land and on Reuben Harresons Land and Easterly upon John Ogdens Land:-

Item I Give and Bequeath all my Mov[e]able Estate to my Sons and Daughters as follows Except those things Above Mentioned Given to my Wife Phebe:-

my sons John Ogden Thomas Ogden David Ogden Simeon Ogden Swain Ogden

my Daughters Mary Dodd Susannah Williams Sarah Ederson Hannah Beebout Phebe Brundage to Be Equally Divided Among them all:-

I Do Hereby Utterly Disallow Revoke and Disanul All and Every other former Testament will Legacies and Executors By me in any way before this Time Ratifying and Confirming this and no other to Be my Last will and Testament In Witness whereof I have Here unto these Presents Set my Hand and Seal this 27 twenty-seventh Day of October In the Year of our Lord one thousand seven Hundred and Eighty Seven Signed Sealed Published Pronounced and Delivere[d] By the said Samuel Ogden as his Last will and Testament in the Presence of us the Subscribers
