The 9-year-old daughter of Swain and Mary (nee Ackerman) Ogden, little Mary was baptized at the Dutch Reformed Church in Belleville, NJ. She shares the grave and gravestone of her siblings Sarah, (age 11) and John (age 6) here in the churchyard of the First Presbyterian Church of Orange. The three syoung siblings died within days of each other in April 1735, victims of a "fearful pestilence", thought to be diptheria, which claimed the lives of many children in the New England and Mid-Atlantic colonies that particularly wet and chilly spring. Their brown sandstone stele has a grim soul effigy in its tympanum and bears the somber inscription "Memento mori".
