Mrs. Mary Margaret Courtney, 56, wife of William R. Courtney, of Route 2, Stuarts Draft, died suddenly at 12:30 a.m. Sunday at Waynesboro Community Hospital.
She was a member of the Sherando United Methodist Church and the church's Woman's Society of Christian Service. Mrs. Courtney was also a member of the Women of the Moose Lodge 2131 of Stuarts Draft. She was a former employee of Du Pont and Morton Frozen Foods, and was co-owner of the W. R. Courtney Grocery at the time of her death.
Mrs. Courtney was born on Oct. 15, 1911, at Stuarts Draft, a daughter of the late Charles Thomas and Mollie Carter.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son by a former marriage, Lewis W. Floyd of Lyndhurst; three brothers, Frank P. Carter of Culpeper, Edward W. Carter of Waynesboro and Carl C. Carter of Stuarts Draft; three sisters, Mrs. James L. Matheny of Waynesboro, Mrs. A. L. Bosquet of Richmond and Mrs. James H. Patterson of Route 2, Stuarts Draft; one step-daughter, Mrs. Franklin (Cecelia) Baldwin of Richmond; three grandchildren and five step-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Sherando United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Clyde Weaver. Burial will be in Augusta Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m. today at Etter Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers will be Sidney C. Shirley, Jack Robertson, Harry T. Robertson, Gordon Patterson, John Farrar, and Paul R. Brydge.
Flower bearers will be members of the Woman's Society of Christian Service of the Sherando United Methodist Church.
