Born Sept. 11, 1898, in Sherando, he was a son of the late Charles Thomas and Mollie Eubanks Carter. Mr. Carter was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Martha Mullins Carter.
Survivors include three brothers, Frank Carter, Charleston, W. Va.; Edward Carter, Route 2, Waynesboro, and Carl Carter, Stuarts Draft; four brothers, Mrs. J. L. (Clara) Matheny, Waynesboro; Mrs. A. L. (Sallie) Bosquett, Richmond; Mrs. J. H. (Lillian) Patterson, Lyndhurst, and Mrs. W. R. (Mary) Courtney, Stuarts Draft; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Body will remain at the Etter Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
