William Edward Carter, 75, died unexpectedly Friday afternoon in the yard at his home, 1924 Lyndhurst Rd.
Mr. Carter was a member of the Sherando United Methodist Church. He was retired after having been employed for 17 years by the Waynesboro Nurseries, Inc. He had also been employed by J. S. Mathers, Inc.
Mr. Carter was born in Augusta county on Jan. 1, 1893, a son of the late Charles Thomas and Mollie Eubank Carter.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Manilla Dedrick Carter; three sons, T. Sgt. Clarence E. Carter with the U. S. Air Force in Vietnam, Jack G. Carter and William D. Carter, both of Waynesboro; one daughter, Mrs. Mary Ann Hicks of Charlottesville; two brothers, Frank P. Carter of Culpeper and Carl C. Carter of Stuarts Draft; three sisters, Mrs. James L. Matheny of Waynesboro, Mrs. A. L. Bosquet of Richmond, and Mrs. James H. Patterson of Route 2, Stuarts Draft; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchildren.
The body will remain at the Etter Funeral Home.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete pending the arrival of Clarence E. Carter from Vietnam.
