HEYWORTH (PNS) - Porter Aaron Shannon, 63, of 305 Poplar St. died at 12:30 a m Thursday at Chanute Air Force Base Hospital, Rantoul.

His funeral will be at 1 p. m. Saturday at Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington, the Revs. Roy Adams and Vernon Oakley officiating. Burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery, Downs.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 tonight at the memorial home.

He was born July 20, 1916, in Heyworth, a son of Elmer and Goldie Rousey Shannon. He married Alta Mae Dryer July 20, 1941, in Heyworth. She survives.

Also surviving are a son, Robert L. Heyworth, two daughters. Sharon Reynolds. Henderson, Ky. and Nanci Dyer, Heyworth, six sisters, Arliene Hooser, Beverly Aldridge and Patty Girdler, all of Heyworth. Betty Zimmerman, Sandwich, Shirley Emberton, Lexington, and Donna Rae Steele, Clinton; six brothers, Earl, Chicago; and Merle, Billy, Junior, Gordon and Donald, all of Heyworth, and six grandchildren.

Two brothers preceded him in death.

He was a member of Heyworth American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Carbondale and Heyworth United Methodist Church.

He was a World War II veteran and a master sergeant in the Air Force for 26 years, retiring in 1967.

He worked for General Telephone Co. as a storekeeper from 1967 to 1976.

Memorials can be made to McLean County Heart Association or Heyworth Ambulance Association.
