Bellaver Funeral Is Held Here Today

Funeral services were held this morning at nine o'clock at St. Agnes Catholic church for Matteo Bellaver, residents of this community for more than thirty years, and a well-known retired coal miner, who died Saturday afternoon at 1:35 o'clock at Hillsboro Hospital. He had been in failing health for six months. The Rev. John Heslin performed the ceremony and burial was made in St. Agnes cemetery. He had been a patient at the hospital for only a few days.

Matteo Bellaver was born in Italy, a son of John and Teresa (Schievenin) Bellaver on September 21, 1865, and at his age, he was 71 years, five months and 15 days of age. He was reared in Italy where he and Miss Mary Cora were united in marriage in 1889. They remained in Italy until 1893, when they immigrated to the United States and settled in Pennsylvania, where Mr. Bellaver was a coal miner. They moved to this community in 1904 and Mr. Bellaver was employed in the Kortkamp mine, where he continued to work until it closed. After that mine closed, he retired, and since then he had spent his time at home.

Mr. and Mrs. Bellaver were the parents of nine children. One died in infancy, and the others, with their mother, survive, as follows: Thressa, wife of Jake Scopel; Blanche, wife of Joe Del Santa; Tony Bellaver, all of Kenosha, Wis.; Harry Bellaver of Long Island, New York; Lena, wife of Raymond Del Canton, Manse, John and Desider Bellaver of Hillsboro. The latter two are twins. Harry Bellaver is a noted actor, who is at present appearing in a stage production in New York City. He has appeared in place for a number of years, some of which have been famous productions.

Besides his wife and children he is survived by two brothers; Guy, of Pennsylvania and Peter of Kenosha, Wis., and a sister, Mrs. Liberty Cora of Italy. Two brothers and a sister preceded him in death. He was a member of the Progressive Minors of America and of the Federation Order of Eagles.
