Don collie was born in Ionia, Kansas on December 1890, the youngest child of James and Susan Davis Collie. He grew to manhood in Ionia and was in the military service during World War I in the 160th Company of the 40th Division, serving overseas for about 1 12 years.
He came to Colorado in 1929 and lived briefly at Arriba and then at Morrision and other Colorado communities, since he was engaged in road building and construction work. He returned to Arriba in 1943 and remained a resident until his death.
Don married Luella Beedy of Arriba on July 28,1945. They had farmed in the Arriba area since 1946. He is survived by his wife, eight children; Dale, Alice, Carl, Donna, Patricia, James, Kathleen and Connie, ten grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and all of his brothers and sisters. He is also survived by the widows of two of his brothers, Mamie Collie of Mankato,Kansas and Mayme Collie of Alva, Oklahoma.
Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. Monday November 2, at the First Congregational Church in Arriba with the Rev. Everette Fasnacht assisted by the Rev. Floyd Shiery officiating. Burial was in the Arriba Cemetery with the Buchanan-Love Funeral home of Limon in charge of arrangements.
