Katherine (Kay) G. Floor passed away peacefully Sunday January 2, 2011. She was born in Missoula, Montana August 6, 1918 and married Gus G. Floor in Salt Lake City on March 8, 1942. He preceded her in death July 30, 1972. Mom is survived by her three children, Helen (Larry) Petersen, George (Susan) Floor, and Christine (David) Duke; eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, brother-in-law Herman Gygi, nieces, nephews and close friends. Also preceding her in death, her three dear sisters, Helen (Andy) Bathemess, Bella (Herman) Gygi, and Penny (Phil) McGrath; there is sure to be a happy reunion with them. Her family loved her dearly. We would like to express gratitude to our sister Helen for all of the attention and love she gave mom when she needed it most. Mom was self sufficient, positive, compassionate, selfless and caring. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren loved being around her and learned valuable lessons from her that they will carry with them throughout their lives. She worked at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Salt Lake for many years until her heart attack. She drove from Ogden to Salt Lake every day, never missing or late for work. At that time, one could say she almost ran the place by herself. She was President of the Ladies Philoptochos and she also taught Sunday school in Ogden. Mom was the ultimate hostess to whoever walked through her door. On a moments notice, she was able throw together a fabulous meal. She loved the outdoors, traveling, shopping, playing cards and games with her sisters, family and their friends as well. She always wore high heels, whether riding a camel in Egypt or outside gardening. She had a way of making anything look good with heels, even her sweats. She was a lady of class and poise with a classic look and keen eye for decorating. Her great-grandchildren were her greatest joy on which she bestowed many hugs, kisses and much love. Mother has enriched not only the lives of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, but her nieces, nephews and all those who came in contact with her. She will be greatly missed; momma's love and lessons will live on in the hearts of all. As she began to tire she spoke less, but you could see the love and affection in her eyes. We would like to thank Woodland Park Care Center for their care and the love they showed her. A prayer service will be held on Thursday, January 20 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 279 South 300 West. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 21, at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. Interment will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Salt Lake Holy Trinity Ladies Philoptochos Society. Mom is love - May Her Memory Be Eternal.
