Gideon was born in Jackson Township, Mahoning County, the son of Robert (33299622) and Margery Ewing (33299695) Gault. He graduated from the Academy of North Jackson, the Academy of Canfield, and the Seminary of Poland, OH. He was a very successful teacher.
He married Olive L. Mason (Memorial # 63933460) on Oct. 15, 1873. She was the daughter of Abner (67324280) and Priscilla (67324332) Mason, both buried in West Mecca Cemetery.
They had two sons, Frank N. and Julian W.
