Her obituary in the 11 Apr 1995 Belleville News-Democrat states:
"Frieda Hirstein, nee Berger, 98, of Lebanon, Ill., died Sunday, April 9, 1995, at Emerald Gardens Health Care Center, Lebanon, Ill.

She worked at the shoe factory in Trenton, Ill., the hat factory in Lebanon, Ill., and had worked in the home of Dr. Harris doing domestic work; had been a member of the Mennonite Church, Summerfield, Ill., was active in mission society and bible class, and also attended rural school at the Sharon School, south of Trenton, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Jacob Hirstein, whom she married April 9, 1919, at Mennonite Church, Summerfield, Ill., and who passed away Dec. 22, 1942; parents, Henry and Susanne, nee Wagner, Berger; five brothers, Jacob, David, Peter, Samuel, and Benjamin Berger; and six sisters, Mary Baer, Elizabeth Stoelzing, Barbara Meyer, Kathryn Mayne, Magdalena Wolf and Ida Langenwalter.

Surviving are a son, Gerald (Jerry) and Valerie Hirstein of Arnold, Mo.; two daughters, Ethel and Ralph Bridges of Lebanon, Ill., Edith and Larry Hock of O'Fallon, Ill.; four grandchildren, James and Athena Bridges of Washingtonville, N.Y., Jean and Earl Ebel of Belleville, Ill., Joyce and Paul Mills of Granite City, Ill., Daniel and Janice Hirstein of St. Peters, Mo.; 12 great-grandchildren, Scott and Seth Bridges, Jennifer and Nicole Lippert, Christine, David, Douglas, John, Julie and Laura Mills, Michael and Christopher Hirstein; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 13, 1995, at Meyer Funeral Home, Lebanon, Ill., with the Rev. James Bridges, Fellowship Unitarian Church, Washingtonville, N.Y., officiating. Burial will be in Summerfield Cemetery, Summerfield, Ill.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 12 at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society.

Pallbearers are Earl Ebel, Paul Mills, Douglas Mills, John Mills, Daniel Hirstein and Michael Hirstein."
