"Ethel Mae Bridges, nee Hirstein, 74, of Lebanon, Ill., died Monday, May 22, 1995, at 11:15 p.m. at her home.

She was born Aug. 29, 1920, south of Summerfield in Lebanon Township, Ill.

She had worked at American Thermometer Factory in St. Louis, Mo.; taught for several years in Helwig School, southwest of O'Fallon, and Ruth School south of Summerfield, both one-room school houses; and served for many years as an Avon sales representative in Lebanon, Ill. She had been a member of the Summerfield Mennonite Church and then St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Lebanon, Ill. She had taught Sunday school and was a member of the Women's Fellowship, along with other church and community organizations.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel Jacob and Frieda, nee Berger, Hirstein.

Surviving are her husband, Ralph Richard Bridges, at home, whom she married Oct. 10, 1945; a son, James Richard and Athena Drewes Bridges of Washingtonville, N.Y.; a sister, Edith and Lawrence Hock of O'Fallon, Ill.; a brother, Gerald and Valerie Hirstein of Arnold, Mo.; two grandchildren, Scott Richard Bridges and Seth Andrew Bridges; nieces, a nephew, and numerous cousins.

She willed her body to the St. Louis University School of Medicine. A memorial service will be conducted at St. Paul's United Church of Christ of Lebanon, Ill., by Pastor Don Wagner at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 27, 1995.

Friends may call from 4 until 8 p.m. Friday, May 26, 1995, at St. Paul's United Church of Christ Fellowship Hall.
