Esther E. Haendler, 92, of Burlington died at 10:55 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, 2010, at Burlington Care Center.
Born Dec. 6, 1918, in Mount Union, she was the daughter of Bert and Ora Evelyn Lockhart Cornwell. On Feb. 24, 1940, she married Kenneth "Toby" Hollenbeck. He died Nov. 30, 1968. On March 30, 1979, she married John Haendler. He died March 31, 1986.
Mrs. Haendler was a homemaker and worked as a substitute teacher at Concordia Country School. She graduated from Winfield High School in 1937. She was a member of First Christian Church in Arkansas and women's auxiliary of Moose. She was active in PTA and senior citizens groups in Arkansas and Burlington. She enjoyed playing bingo.
Survivors include three daughters, Glenda Meyers and Lynda Ball, both of Burlington, and Ellen Bodine of Kelso, Wash.; one son, Walter "Butch" Hollenbeck of West Burlington; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by two grandchildren and her parents.
Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Monday at Lunning Chapel in Burlington, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
The funeral for Mrs. Haendler will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Dean Moberg officiating. Burial will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery.
