Dora Alice Springer was born January 11, 1890, in Crane, Stone County, Missouri. Her parents were the Rev. James D. Springer and Hulda Elvira (White) Springer. In 1890, the year of her birth, her father was pastor of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Robertson's Mills, Missouri. This was a small community in northern Stone County located near the mouth of the Finley River. In 1900 the family lived in Crane, Stone County, Missouri, where her father was pastor of the Hickory Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
On November 11, 1906, she married Clyde Edward Browning in Crane, Missouri. They continued living in this area until about 1930 where the family is shown in the census in Plumas County, California. Clyde Browning was an engineer on the railroad.
Dora and Clyde Browning were parents of three children: Eva Glen (1908 - 1996); Hazel Gladys (1910 - 1948); and Joe Edward (1912 - 1990).
