Nancy Ann Springer was the daughter of the Reverend James Dobbins Springer and Nancy Elizabeth Morris. She was the youngest of their seven children. Nancy's mother died when Nancy was about 1 1/2 years of age. Her father was a minister in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Nancy's death certificate states that she was born in Crane, Missouri, but it is more likely that her birthplace was Lawrence County. Her father was pastor of the Verona Cumberland Presbyterian Church from 1877 through 1883. The family moved to Crane, most likely, around 1894, when he father became pastor of the Hickory Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Crane. She was married to Isaac Newton Lockhart on December 31, 1899 in Stone County, Missouri by the Reverend John T Crumpley. She was the mother of seven children: Leroy Theodore, William Isaac, Harry, Jessie Lee, Ruth, Evelyn and Chester Charles. The family moved from Missouri to Texas between 1920-1930 and settled in Breckenridge.
