Nancy Elizabeth Morriss was the daughter of Jordan A Morriss and Mary Ann Button. (See Boucher Cemetery, Lawrence County, Missouri). The Morriss family came to Lawrence County, Missouri from Kentucky around 1850 and was one of the early families who settled in the Clear Creek vicinity near Pierce City. Her father was a blacksmith. Nancy Elizabeth Morriss married James Dobbins Springer December 3, 1865 in Lawrence County, Missouri. They were parents of seven children: William Andrew, John Morris, Lemuel Allen, Mary Elizabeth, Sarah Ellen, Edgar, and Nancy Ann. Nancy was previously married to Benjamin F Jones and they had one son, Thomas.
