Lemuel Allen Springer was born January 16, 1871 near Mt Vernon in Lawrence County, Missouri, the son of the Rev. James Dobbins Springer and Nancy Elizabeth Morris. He was the third of their seven children and he was named after his uncle, Lemuel Allen, the husband of James D. Springer's sister, Sarah. His siblings were: William Andrew, John Morris, Mary Elizabeth (Robbins), Sarah Ellen (Forrester), Edgar and Nancy Ann (Lockhart). He had six half-siblings from his father's other two marriages. On February 14, 1900 he married Mary Lillian Thompson at the home of her parents in Stone County, Missouri by the Rev John T Crumpley. They were parents of eight children: Weldon Ralph, James Elijah, Jennie Lucelle, Mary Ferrel, Ursula Irene, Louisa Grace, Edgar Allen and Phyllis Maxine. He worked as a miller and a farmer. He served as Justice of the Peace for several years in the Hurley community. On January 11, 1943 he suffered a heart attack and died at his home in Hurley.
